AAT Student Stories: Meg Kiddy | AAT Level 2 & 3 Review

Meg Kiddy

AAT Level 2 and AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting.

After completing her AAT Level 2 qualification and taking a well deserved break, Meg decided to enhance her career even further with an AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting. Find out more about her inspiring story below!

Two years ago I completed my Level 2 AAT with ICS Learn and I got offered an amazing progressive role in accounts at a technology company in Cambridge. This was a massive move for me, going from working in sales ledger to purchase ledger and being in charge of numerous credit cards. I was very excited.

I then took a break from work for 7 months and went travelling due to mental health issues and feeling the need to ‘escape’ real life. This came from family members putting pressure on me to work, work, work and earn lots of money.

I loved my job and the people I worked with, but the pressures got too much.

I came back to the UK 7 months later, having ‘found’ myself and the love of my life. Then Covid-19 hit. I had temporary accounts jobs to keep me going but nothing life-changing.

I stayed really good friends with my old manager and colleagues. My old manager phoned me up one day in April 2020 and said, "Let's cut to the chase, we’d like you to come back here and work with us on a 6-month contract".

I jumped with joy, I was so thrilled! Nearly a year later, my contract was made permanent as an Accounts Assistant and my manager and boyfriend persuaded me to continue my AAT onto Level 3.

I chose AAT because it is a good foundation to accounts and being successful, and gives me the option of moving onto something like CIMA later on if I wanted to.

In all honesty, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go back to working full time alongside studying, it’s quite the task! I was reserved about online learning; it is easy to get distracted with everyday life and say ‘I will do it tomorrow'.

As my manager and boyfriend said, however, if ever we decided to go back to New Zealand (where my boyfriend is from) and live, I would have a qualification to get me started there, plus it looks amazing on my CV.

I am pleased to say it is now going well, and for the first time in my 24 years, I actually enjoy studying.

So all I can say is, thank you to my loved ones for believing in me and thank you to ICS Learn and AAT for helping me get one step closer to becoming more qualified and successful.
