International GCSE Student Stories: Emma Bryson | International GCSE Human Biology Review

All her life, Emma dreamed of becoming a teacher. By studying an International GCSE Human Biology, she's been able to kickstart her new career. Find out how here.

For as long as I remember, I had always wanted to become a teacher and, as I’ve got older, more opportunities to follow this dream have become available.

I have recently completed an Access to Higher Education Diploma at college, alongside studying for my International GCSE Human Biology with ICS learn.

I needed GCSE Science in order to meet the entry requirement for a primary teaching degree.

It was quite a juggle with two young children and work too but with plenty of help and support from both college and my personal tutor Jane at ICS, it has all helped get everything I need for my university place starting in September 2020.

I must admit the uncertainty surrounding what would happen to obtaining grades during COVID-19, was a bit unsettling and left me wondering whether I would get my university place after all.

As time went by during lockdown, ICS, in particular exams officer Melissa, began releasing further information about how they were working hard behind the scenes with government guidelines and exam boards to try make exams in some form, happen.

Thankfully, I sat the exam on a Webex, this was quite a strange experience, I was petrified the kids would come running in, but amazingly, it went by without any issue at all.

My previous online test papers and mocks were also used for my final grade, I’m especially thankful to Jane for her support during completing those papers, without her guidance, I wouldn’t have got anywhere near the grade I have achieved, which was a 7!

I’m surprised and relieved to have come out with such a grade in the circumstances, my place with university on my first choice teaching degree has been confirmed as a result for which I’m so grateful to ICS for.
